1st Sea Swim of the Season - TICK

A few of us non winter sea swimmers (Frank, Vic and me) "broke the ice" on Saturday 8th and joined the seasoned Winter Sea Swimmers.  I definitely was not looking forward to it.
Anticipating the usual, being the thought of the cold water and how much has the wet suit shrunk over winter etc. Adding to that the whole jelly fish issue. For those not in touch with the Winter Sea Swimmers there has been a bloom of stinging jelly fish the last couple of weeks. The report from Friday was they were really bad. So as I said   - Not Looking Forward to the experience.

Thanks to  Jenny S and Jo who nurtured Vic and I out to buoy 4. While they carried on Vic and I returned to base very pleased with ourselves. Lovely swim out with the tide and only a few jellies spotted deep down. Sun was out and the water was clear.

In summary:
Yes it was cold, but as you would expect, not too bad once you got going after buoy 1.
I wore booties and 2 bathing caps, even managed to chat for a few minutes at each buoy and didn't feel overly cold.
There were some jellies deep down, hopefully they will now bugger off, but it is nature and no controlling it.
It was glorious to be in the sea again.
In anticipation of jellies, suggest you follow and not lead!!

So, HARDEN UP, and see you next weekend.

  2. I tackled the sea yesterday and yes it is chilly. I was just grateful for the stretchability of my wet suit. Having got in once I ventured out again this morning and had a great swim until colliding with a jellyfish just a few metres from the beach. The sting was more unpleasant than painful.
