Shortest Day and Mid Winter Swim

Greetings to the new world we live in – COVID-19 Level 1!!

Being mid-June it’s time to start squirming and be ready to squeal as those brave enough to strip down and hit the waves for “our” mid-winter dip – some get wet and exit, while others sprint out to Buoy 1!!!
WHEN: Saturday 20th June at 9.30 (it’s a mid-tide) also I believe a couple of birthday’s being celebrated that weekend as well?? And also the Shortest Day. Downhill from here.
WHERE: Takapuna Toilet Block, The Strand, where else??
Dress-up or down, bring toddies towels thermals (for afterwards) and your HUGE smiles!!
We have a group booking at Massimo’s for afterwards NB the ‘GULF’(golf) cup will have its delayed new custodian bestowed on the day also – so it’ll be great to have a good muster??

Once we get past the mid-winter dip, we have the late winter dinner to look forward to at the Northcote Tavern, Northcote Point, dates to pencil in are August 24/25/26, from memory we usually go on the Tuesday, though we’ll confirm the actual date as soon as we can?

2019 8 o'clockers midwinter swim

It was lovely to see everyone for the annual dash and splash. We were very lucky with the weather. Here's a few pics, thanks to Gail.

Tuesday 9 April 2019

Hi all,

The NZ Herald has today published an opinion piece by Alton Jamieson about the quality of our sea water, and the steps and priorities council should be taking to clean it up.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12220300

I won't rave on too much here, as you can read the article for yourselves. But if you have any questions or comments, please let Alton, Ian Gunthorpe, Simon Walter or I know.

And please do share this with other swimmers.

Cheers, Jo

Boxing Day swim: placeholder

We have an 11am 3.6 metre tide on Boxing Day.

So provisionally, subject to weather, and Air NZ strike not going ahead, I'd like to suggest a southbound/incoming Boxing Day swim.

The likely route will be Takapuna to Narrow Neck, which also provides shorter or longer options for those that would like them.

Meet Narrow Neck car park: 7.30am onwards
Depart NN: 7.45am
Swim from: Takapuna Strand at 8am. It would be nice to start together, rather than as disparate groups, even if we eventually self-seed during the swim.

Post-swim: Jo's house. Bring a plate and a plunger (and a partner if you'd like)!

I will confirm Christmas Eve, when I am back from holiday, and once weather conditions and level of interest are clearer.

The Rotary Lake Okataina Charity Swim: Plug for a lovely lake swim

I did this last year, and really enjoyed it, so I've shared the information below with you all.

Dear All

We are hosting the Lake Okataina Swim on March 10th 2019. We hope to have this as another fun event with good input from the Rotorua Lakes Council.

Last year we raised over $1600 for the Big brothers Big Sisters Program.

So, I invite you once again to join us. The Swims will be the same distance: 6k, 3k, 1500m and 800 meters.

if you can spread the word and lets get more swimmers (but not too many). We still want this to be a special boutique swim!

Regards

Katrina

We've gone global....

I just happened to click upon the Global Swim Series results, and found a few of us made it into the top 25. Well done to Helen and Jenny, who both got third, and Stephen Moore who got fourth.
