Well, what a day for the 2017 Chelsea swim. Sunny and still, with a full tide, what's not to like.
The Chelsea swim is known for its quirkiness, and this year's did not disappoint. Poor Geoff and the other organisers had to contend with the non-appearance of the gear van, because it had been towed overnight. We also had the water urn on fire and Geoff had to shout his way through prize-giving as the mike battery gave out.
The excellent conditions meant we all did very respectable times, even us non-wetsuits: Cathy, Helen, Ben and I. Helen got fifth overall in the non-wetsuit division, so that's a great effort from her when she was dealing with a head cold.
The numbers (approx 250) were probably down on previous years, which is a shame as it was a lovely swim. Both Peter and I won spot prizes: an electric food mixer and a bag of sugar-related miscellany respectively. Peter was also presented with a special trophy to acknowledge his 28th Chelsea attempt. He's completed 24 of them.
The morning was rounded out nicely with post-swim coffee and breakfast together.
