Tonight was the first race of the Beach Series at Takapuna and as you can imagine the number of participants seemed much lighter than usual. With good reason as it turned out. The conditions were choppy but not unusual for Takapuna and the good news is that the water temperature felt a degree for two warmer than a few weeks ago.
The not so good news is that the jellyfish were bad. Everyone was stung and quite a few people appeared to not be coping with the little beasties. One guy backstroked all the way to avoid being stung on the face. I received two good whacks across the face and neck as well as stings on both hands and a foot.
Bloody bum jellyfish. I suggest we nuke them out of the water. Maybe somebody has a better idea? Sea you around :-)
ReplyDeleteWill be interested in how people find the Kohi series swims which also starts tonite? Also are they in the inner harbour for the X-Harbour swim? Did anyone do the Herne Bay swim? Be interested in knowing if anyone got stung during that innner/upper Harbour swim??
