What a fantastic way to mark Anzac Day.
Thirty swimmers assembled at Milford for the third (?) Tiny Freyburg Anzac Day swim.
We were warmed by our gunfire breakfast of coffee or hot chocolate, laced with rum, and inspired by Royden's toast to those who had given service.
We were in the water at 0-8 hundred hours. Our mission was to take Takapuna, landing first at Thorne Bay to fight the enemy and replenish.
An advance party went to the stick, to survey our landing position and identify the presence of any enemy fighters.
The battalion landed on Thorne's in ones and twos - clearly Helen and Katrina were not perceived as a threat.
Once Thorne's had been seized, it was back in the water. Some of the contingent gave the Witch's Hat a wide berth. A jet ski was sighted between land and buoy one, but all made it safely to the white triangle.
Unidentified Takapuna troops were seen heading out to Cable Buoy. But this unit's mission was safely completed. All would have been accounted for had we bothered to check!
Jo Hammer had an individual mission to transfer the contents of a large pail to the local RSA. She's delighted to confirm that Devonport RSA very gratefully received our $100 donation.

Thanks everyone for being part of a great morning. It was a swim enjoyed in wonderful spirit - the rum pun is not intended!

Thank you those for organising today's memorable Anzac day swim. Enjoyable and with a serious undertone.
ReplyDeleteThe preceding liquid breakfast is something we can do every Saturday :-) in my most humble opinion.
