Hi all you ocean swimmers,
Have you ever wondered what else might be floating around in the sea except for jelly fish, king fish, sharks and other entities with a heart beat?
There is a website where you can find the results of the beach water quality monitoring of Auckland's beaches with a weekly update. This season this takes place from 6 November 2012 and runs through to 31 March 2013.
I have watched this website for a while and it is funny (if not scary) to see that after a few days of rain the beach water quality drops significantly. Check it for yourself at:

A useful website!
Cheers,
Frank
There is good news and bad news. A couple of years ago I chatted to a guy who tests the water. He explained that the test are done in very shallow water. By the time the water is a metre deep the sheer volume of salt water has effectively dealt to the nasties and swimming out by the buoys is even better.
ReplyDeleteThe bad news is the most contaminated water is in the shallow water where the very small kiddies play.
