Hi
Apologies for the delay in getting this up on the blog. We were seeing what numbers were interested and also what the forecast was going to be.
According to Steve from Tri Club (he is usually on the money) "The forecast is for fine weather and gentle Southerly winds on Saturday". Met service a short time ago said slight South Westerlies, even better!
We swam with Steve's squad this morning and it was glorious. A bit of wind came up about 10am.
Remember this is tide assisted. High tide is 7:33am.
Devonport swim club have their Narrowneck to Cheltenham swim starting at 9am from Narrowneck (against the tide). We are aiming to be clear of the southern end of Narrowneck before their start.
The Options are:
Option A: 10kms
Really long swim 10Km: Devonport (across from the library) to Milford - 10km.
Meet and ready to leave at 7:15am at the northern end of Milford Beach by the changing rooms and take a car to Devonport.
Start at Devonport at 7:45am. There is a kayaker (Peter Adams, Helen's brother). Bring drink bottle and snack to go on the kayak. If you plan to meet at Milford let Helen or Cathy know so they are expecting you. Helen, Cathy, Jenny and Keith are swimming this.
Option B: 7km
Variation on the above, start with Option A but finish at Takapuna. (7km) If you plan to finish at Takapuna then:
Meet at Gibbons Road Takapuna behind the library (no parking restrictions)ready to go by 7:15am. Let me (Meegan) know if you are going to be at Takapuna so I know to expect you and we use as few cars as possible. I think Peter Janssen is swimming this option.
Option C: 5.5km or 6.5km
Start at the Navy Museum from the wharf (about 500m from where Option A and B are starting, right under North Head) and swim to Takapuna. Southern end (Hauraki end) means about 6km. To the toilet block 7km. No kayaker for this group.
Meet at Gibbons Road Takapuna behind the library (no parking restrictions)ready to go by 7:15am. Let me (Meegan) know if you are going to be at Takapuna so I know to expect you and we use as few cars as possible.
Expected to swim from the Navy Museum wharf are a slower group. Start time 7:45am. Me, Richelle and Fiona.
Option D: 3.5km
Start with Option A and B (Opposite Devonport library). But finish at Narrowneck, about 3.5km. You may have the benefit of the kayaker from Option A and B.
Meet and be ready to depart at 7:25am at Narrowneck, in the car park opposite the dairy. Let Jo know if you are going to be at Narrowneck so she knows to expect you.
Finishing times will vary with the different groups and distances.
Brunch has been booked at Mint Takapuna (next to Glengarry's Hurstmere Road) for 11am. I have only booked for 8 people. Not sure who ends up swimming and who will be staying around for brunch. As always we can squeeze in extras. Better that than book a large group and not fill it.
Too late to text you Jo but I'm intending to start at Narrowneck with you. Nicky
ReplyDeleteA swim from Waiheke to the mainland via Motuhi and Browns Island (either stopping on the way, or running overland) is quite manageable, scenic, and sounds impressive with good-sized landmarks on the way.
ReplyDeleteAnyone interested in organising ?
Great idea AJL, let us know when you've organised the logistics and we'll come along. BTW, who are you?
ReplyDeleteHi Anna.
ReplyDeleteNo idea how to organise the Waiheke event, but I might just swim it and check out the route.
I heard about a bunch of people who were going to be swimming toward me when I was racing Southwards in Devonport on Saturday. I was looking forward to some kind of sea-battle and was disappointed to find you had already run away, so decided to look you up instead.
Looking forward to Tauranga and 5 bridges. I hope y'all don't mind me blogging.
