Let's discuss! I'm not sure if I will be rushing down there to swim with the jelly fish etc in Pilot Bay. I think I would prefer to be mown down by the kitesurfers at Taka!
I am writing to advise all participants of the State Sand to Surf event taking place tomorrow (26th March 2011) will now take place in Pilot Bay.
I have just taken a first hand look at the conditions off Main Beach with Greg Miekle from the Harbour Masters office and the head of event safety from Surf Life Saving New Zealand, and we have all agreed the ocean conditions are unsuitable to run with the proposed courses tomorrow.
This has left us no option but to run the event in the protected waters of Pilot Bay (and from looking at it less than hour ago, looks beautifully calm and protected from the wind).
The event times will remain the same as advertised on our website. View here
The event head quarters is the grass reserve at the corner of Salisbury Avenue and The Mall (next to the wharf). View map here
The 'I'm Going Long' swim will be changed to a two lap 2km course. All other courses will remain the same length.
The Pack Pick Up/Registration function today will remain at the same venue and at the same advertised time as stipulated on the State Sand to Surf web page. View here.
We look forward to seeing you all at the Bay tomorrow morning. Please spread this news to fellow participants if you are able to.
Kind regards
Scott Rice
Event Director
