Subject: Buoys at Takapuna beach
Hello,
I am a regular swimmer at Takapuna beach and over the years have noticed that the buoys marking off the beach from the boating lane have been gradually disappearing. Once there were seven but now there are only four. Last week a small boat traveled very fast between the beach and the buoys coming from the south and heading for the boat ramp. This morning a much larger boat cut across a number of swimmers heading in for the beach. It will only be a matter of time before some one is badly hurt.
There needs to be another buoy between the boat ramp and buoy one, a further buoy between buoys one and two and definately another buoy at the southern end of the beach between buoys three and four.
I am not sure if these are your responsibility, and if not I would appreciate if you could let me know who is responsible.

We definitely do have an intention to do something at Takapuna Beach. We are assessing how many more buoys are required along the beach and awaiting the delivery of the hardware to position a new buoy.

ReplyDeleteI'm also a regular swimmer at Takapuna, had one eye on the jetski's out there on Sat just gone (19th Feb) at approx 3:30 as two blokes were hooning around very close to the buoys, PLEASE can you place another few buoys there and a couple of signs near the boat ramp requesting that boaties and jetskiers in particular take note of the many ocean swimmers in the water, we'll all out to have a good time, it would be a major tragedy if there was a serious incident or fatality off Takapuna beach.
