CROSS TO THE DARK SIDE ........
When:
Good Friday, this week, 2nd April.
Meet 9:00am ish.
4 Clarence Road, Northcote Point.
Helen's folks home, down the driveway, vintage, gorgeous, white villa.
Parking on Clarence Road.
Swim 9:30am.
Need to be in the water by this time as the Dark Side is very tidal. High tide is 10:40am.
Swim for an hour.
Just to clarify this is an EVENT, not a race or just a swim.
Quote Matt and Peter:
" Now an EVENT is even more leisurely... you can stop, chat, admire the scenery. You can take a passing interest in time and place, but nothing more"
Helen will of course be providing a commentary of the high points and history of the area from the water.
What to bring:
Pot Luck brunch at 4 Clarence Road afterwards.
Bring a contribution of something edible or drinkable.
Other Important Stuff:
Swim Routes: Helen to advise, but about 2.5km swim. From Halls Beach (below the Bridgeway cinema. There is public access which would be easier for any kayaks or access from Helen's folks place where we are going to meet) swim to Birkenhead wharf then East to a Special Rock (?) and back to the start. A triangle.
A shorter swim from Hall's Beach to Needles Eye and maybe Birkenhead wharf and directly back.
All will be made clear at the waters edge on Friday.
Risks: The usual with an added extra special risk. Sharp oysters on the rocks getting in and out. Hence the need to go at High tide. Dolphin diving at your peril. Wading not encouraged. There may be a couple of kayakers.
Cold shower available at the waters edge. Changing and warm shower available at 4 Clarence Road. Gear can be left on the deck at 4 Clarence Road.
Wrap up around midday so those travelling at Easter can get away.
For those that participated last year, we are staying at the "Old House" for Brunch as opposed to making our way back to Helen and Toms.
CONTINGENCY:
Meet at 9am at Northcote Point as planned and if it is too foul we can decide then where to swim depending on the conditions. Eg Takapuna North end and use the outdoor tables there or maybe even the Lake. Weather and wind dependent.
